John Ray Grisham, was born on 8 Feb 1955 in in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He received a BS in accounting from Mississippi State University in 1977 and graduated from University of Mississippi School of Law with a JD degree in 1981. He worked as a lawyer for ten years and was a successful politician. His first impression for writing was in 1984, when he overheard a 12-year-old girl telling the jury what had happened to her.
It took Grisham 4 years to write his first novel, A Time to Kill which was published in 1989 and sold over 275 million copies worldwide. His second novel, The Firm, remained in New York Time’s bestseller list for 47 weeks and became the bestselling novel of 1991; more than 7 million copies of it was sold on a first printing.
John Grisham won several awards such as Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award in 2005, Galaxy British Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007, Library of Congress Creative Achievement Award for Fiction in 2009, The inaugural Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction for The Confession in 2011, and Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction for Sycamore Row in 2014.
